[Nutrition] [Environment] 3 Benefits of a plant based diet 🍠🫒

Updated: Jan 10, 2022

I have started reading “ How not to die” from Michael Greger, founder of Nutritionfacts website.

It explains how a plant-based diet can extend your life while transforming your quality of living. That inspired me to tell you at least 3 advantages of turning to a plant based diet.

This diet is often touted as the healthiest approach to eating, and its benefits extend way beyond weight loss.

It does exist different interpretations of a plant based diet:

The Vegetarian Diet

Individuals who are vegetarian may eat cheese, eggs, and milk, but they do not eat meat, they switched to plant based proteins (nuts, grains, vegetables, tofu, tempeh…)

Flexitarian Diet

Individuals who are more flexible in their diet. They cut down on their meat intake and eat a diet that’s primarily filled with plants but eat some animal products here and there.

Vegan Diet

Individuals choose to exclusively eat plants and further than only make changes in their diet, they also protect the environment and the animals in the way they consume everyday, a proper animal cruelty free lifestyle.

Which one are you? Let me know in the comments below 😀

If you are none of them yet, let me tell you some of the incredible benefits of eating plants!

  1. A plant based diet can help prevent disease, but also stop it in its track!

Dr Michaeal Greger examines the top causes of premature death: heart disease, cancers, blood pressure, diabetes and more.

The research has found a plant-based diet may lower your blood pressure, may keep your heart healthy because these diets are low in saturated fat, free of cholesterol, and rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

2. A plant-based diet helps maintain a healthy weight

If you’re looking to maintain a healthy weight (without the ups and downs) that come with traditional dieting, there’s evidence that cutting back on meat and plant-based diets can help because they are packed with fiber, which fill you up, without adding extra calories.

3. Protects the Environment

An healthy diet is good for you but also good for the planet! Most of the land is used for animal agriculture and livestocks (representing almost 80% of the total agricultural land). Plus, According to some research it takes 11 times more fossil energy and 100 times more water to produce animal protein than it does for plants.

" Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. " - Albert Einstein
